John studied and taught New Thought when he returned to the United States. In 1988, he was ordained as a minister by Terry Cole-Whittaker. Today, John continues to work with Cherokee and Lakota medicine people and enjoys exploring subjects of diversity and gender relations as an associate professor at the University of North Carolina.
In the late 1990's, Churches Uniting in Global Mission and its founder, Dr. Robert Schuller, recruited John to lead the social action program, Peacemakers.
