John is fun and engaging. He has been leading and teaching people in personal growth for many years. He is passionate about revealing the power that dwells within each person he meets.
John is a teacher, guide, mentor, and leader. His spiritual journey began in the early nineteen-eighties when an economic collapse prompted him to sell or close all of his businesses. He moved to Australia where he met a man named Ken Dyers. Through his work with his new found mentor, John began to understand the deep meaning and cosmic connection of all life.
John studied and taught New Thought when he returned to the United States. In 1988, he was ordained as a minister by Terry Cole-Whittaker. He continued his study in the teachings of Ernest Holmes and the principles and practices of other spiritual disciplines. This work carried John into an exploration of Native American shamanism. Today, John continues to work with Cherokee and Lakota medicine people and enjoys exploring subjects of diversity and gender relations as an associate professor at the University of North Carolina.
In the late 1990's, Churches Uniting in Global Mission and its founder, Dr. Robert Schuller, recruited John to lead the social action program, Peacemakers. He traveled across the U.S. helping faith communities find new ways to become involved in eliminating and healing the ravages of youth violence. John continues to work with teenagers in his local area through the Smart Choices Youth Mentoring Program and is a board member of the Center for Restorative Justice. John serves with his wife Barbara as co-minister of the Center for Spiritual Living in Ashville, North Carolina and as President of the worldwide organization, Centers for Spiritual Living.
